Yes! Pretty Cure 5 is the first series in the franchise to depart from the 2-girl dynamic and feature an ensemble senshi cast similar to that of Sailor Moon. It is also one of the few series that has a direct year-long sequel season in Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo!, which introduces yet another PreCure character named Milky Rose. The main cast consists of a fairly balanced assortment of personalities, from the wide-eyed klutz leader, Nozomi Yumehara/Cure Dream, to the conventional, intelligent Karen Minazuki/Cure Aqua, and even has some memorable villains and side characters.
The standout quality in Yes 5 is the balance of the cast, and the chemistry that exists between the characters. Since there is less focus to go around compared to the 2-girl shows prior, the relationships between each Cure serves to further their characterization. It’s a light, fun show, with some interesting concepts that are later explored in other series. This is an excellent starter show for PreCure neophytes!
